I'm A.K. Small but if you love me, call me Angela. The e actually has the French accent aigu, except I'm having trouble inserting it.
Fun fact, I was named after Angela Davis, the black political activist and all around badass because my mother, at the time. in Paris, was reading Angela's autobiography and fell for her. But my mother wanted the French to pronounce it correctly thus the accent....:)
I decided to start a blog because I'm longing for reader connection and the idea of TikTok unravels me. I don't love clips and moving images. :) I'm more a library worm, someone who likes to connect over tea.
Okay! Here are three tidbits about me:
1. I'm an only child and growing up in Paris, France without much family around me, I was super imaginative and probably a little lonely, so I made up rich worlds at an early age, read non-stop, and I also fell in love with ballet.
2. I moved to the United States, Richmond VA more precisely, as a teen and the transition was brutal but worth it because I found the English language and am still madly in love with it, alongside French, today. I also discovered the national parks and the Chesapeake bay! The expansiveness of the U.S.!
3. I flunked out of my first English class because I did not speak a lick of it. Which means that you should never let a little hurdle get in the way of something meaningful. Here I am, an American novelist, decades later.
The rest, you know. BRIGHT BURNING STARS, BIRDS OF PARADISE, and soon IF I PROMISE YOU WINGS.
I am really hoping that in the coming months as I ramp up the momentum to my pub date I get to meet some of you out there, teens, librarians, indie book sellers, dancers, feather lovers, that we connect via IG or email or at a book event soon, that you ask me any questions and that I help make your day just a little better!
